What is Checked in a Level 2 Ultrasound?
A Level 2 Ultrasound, also known as a Targeted or Anomaly Scan, is usually performed between 18 to 22 weeks of pregnancy. It provides a detailed view of the baby’s development and helps detect any structural abnormalities.

Here’s what’s checked during a Level 2 Ultrasound:

  1. Baby’s anatomy – Brain, spine, heart, stomach, kidneys, bladder, limbs, and facial features.
  2. Growth parameters – Head circumference, abdominal circumference, femur length to assess fetal growth.
  3. Amniotic fluid level – To ensure it’s within a healthy range.
  4. Placenta position – To check for placenta previa or low-lying placenta.
  5. Fetal movements and heartbeat – To assess baby’s activity and cardiac function.
  6. Gender (optional) – If parents wish to know (not legal in countries like India).
  7. Cervix length – To assess the risk of preterm labor.
  8. Umbilical cord – Position and number of vessels.
